Can what you eat really trigger acne? It is still a debatable subject with supporters in either the yes or no camps. Personally I fall into neither camps as from personal experience, I do not think that there are any foods that directly cause acne.
The causes are actually Insulin problems, chronic inflammation and excessive stress.

1) Refined Sugars – Foods that fall into this category are refined until they do not contain any nutrients. Refined sugars i.e. doughnuts, cookies, white bread also surge insulin levels.
2) Caffeine – These are found in foods like coffee, teas, sodas etc. Caffeine increases the triggers of adrenalin glands to release stress hormones which will result in increased stress. As we know, acne and stress go very well together.
3) Processed foods – Any food that is processed (i.e. factory made) is unhealthy and should be avoided if you want to clear your acne. Being highly refined, there is hardly any taste left and so to make them tasty again, manufacturers add additives, flavours and other chemicals which can lead to allergic reactions.
4) Dairy – Dairy products contain high fat like ice cream. You will learn below that excess fat causes acne. Also, most of the time, milk comes from pregnant cows and contains hormones. Your body converts these hormones into DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) that increases sebum production.
5) Fat – This is probably the biggest cause of insulin problems i.e. constant up and down swings of your insulin levels. When this happens, you get an blocked pores due to an increase in sebum production. What fat also does is to slow down nutrient and oxygen transport to the cells in your bloodstream.
