Natural Remedy For Acne? The Amazing Green Tea.

The natural healing powers of green tea are well documented. Green tea is unprocessed and is therefore rich in anti-oxidants that protect the body against free radicals. This helps the body guard itself against molecules that can cause DNA damage which can turn cells cancerous. These wonder-chemicals in green tea are the polyphenols and bioflavonoids. Much research has been carried out into other potential benefits of this tea, as well as helping to protect against some types of cancer, it can help fight tooth decay and assist in weight loss and is a mild antiseptic too. Perhaps that explains why there is evidence that it can be used against acne too.

The main group of people who are acne sufferers are teens, but it is by no means limited to them. Menopausal women experience hormone changes and they too can become vitims to the dreaded acne. Acne can be a debilitating affliction as it can upset sufferers, creating anxiety or even depression. In extreme cases, acne sufferers are reluctant to leave the home. Not everyone is happy about coating their skin in synthetic chemicals so they seek natural remedies. Green tea can now be added to the list.

Just over 100 acne-ridden subjects were split into two random sample groups. One group was given the usual benzoyl peroxide cream to treat the acne whilst the other group was given 3% grean tea extract in a cream base. The group using the green tea extract reported fewer side effects, allergic reactions and skin itching plus a greater complexion increase than the benzoyl peroxide group. The study was carried out at the Memorial Medical Centre in the Phillipines.

Unfortunately, there is no independent evidence to corroborate these findings as yet, since this research is quite recent, however, given the fact that green tea contains so many known beneficial compounds, it seems likely that these results could be valid. The other well-known treatment is tea tree oil and there are already herbal products on the market containing a combination of the latter and green tea extract.

Green tea is the most consumed beverage in the world, second only to water. The craze for green tea exceeds taste, as this drink derived from the white-flowered plant, Camellia Sinensis-is continually proving its health and welfare benefits. A native of Asia, green tea is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are known for their ability to help fight disease and maintain healthy cell structure. Antioxidant research has shown that antioxidants help prevent cancer, reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease, and may even levels of blood cholesterol. Researchers are linking the antioxidants in green tea to acne prevention. It has been long known that placing a warm tea bag in a defect of acne or growth of this kind help to draw toxins from the injury, promote faster healing time. Current research has shown that green tea extracts fight bacteria, reduce redness and inflammation, and can hinder the activity of the hormone. All three of these symptoms are present in acne blemishes. The conclusions of the work of the American Academy of Dermatology by dermatologist Dr. Gan-Wong, when compounded into a cream containing 3% green tea extract, the acne treatment results are comparable to the use of a topical solution containing 4% benzoyl peroxide, a common treatment for acne. Dr. Gan-Wong conclusions were based on an independent study of over 100 acne suffers. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups, one group receiving the green tea treatment and the other receiving a benzoyl peroxide treatment. Neither group was aware of the treatment they received, nor the dermatologist who documented their progress. After twelve weeks, significant improvements in reducing acne and redness were observed in patients with green tea extract. The results were comparable to the results of the benzoyl peroxide users. In addition, the dermatologist noted improvements in skin tone in the test subjects who were using the cream of green tea extract, green tea users reported fewer cases of dry skin and allergic reactions. Thus, green tea extract cream had proven to offer the same benefits in the treatment of acne as benzoyl peroxide, with fewer side effects. Benzoyl peroxide is a crystalline powder that is used in the production of tires and plastics and cosmetics. Benzoyl peroxide can irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory tract and is on the list of OSHA hazardous substances as a precaution against prolonged exposure. What makes using green tea extract attractiveness as an acne treatment is that green tea is all natural. It offers a comprehensive study of a community welcomed something that has been recommended by holistic healing practioneers for years. It is likely that green tea has many medicinal properties yet to be verified by Western science. This seems very likely, given the large amount of anecdotal evidence about the healing properties of green tea. Therefore, globally, there is now greater scientific support for acne treatment available to those who want to avoid harmful side effects of treatments for acne different chemicals.
